That was a very eventful week I got the eyeballs for my Deinonychus and I created the iris on photoshop. the mechanism is a little wonky for the eyeball but I plan on fixing it next week. the webbing that holds the jaw together broke. so I had to spend a whole class fixing that. The teeth also have proven to be a challenge. my reference video doesn't show how the teeth are made and I'm having trouble making them. I also have a jaw mechanism working. For the most part, my project is coming along smoothly and I'm making great progress. so I'm going to add a neck to my puppet because I have the time to and I feel like it will complete the piece more.

the W.H.Croxford VAM Academy have been working on these assignments for weeks now we first started with a college which was random or have a focus. after this, we moved on to assemblages which are basically the same as collages but 3D. We then took our assemblages and colleges and took photos of them. some of us chose to put the photos into filtering apps like Prisma. this was to get a more abstract look. after we had our focus we gessoed old canvases and reused them for our abstract paintings. I chose to base my painting of a photo I took of my college which I put into Prisma with a pointillism filter. my college has more focus than random. it isn't based on any photo but it is a landscape. my painting is called The Point of Life because it is a pointillism painting and it's a landscape. Because I'm hilarious.
This year we were once again tasked with creating two SMART goals. One for our academy and one for us personally. For those of you who don't know what a smart goal is please refer to my earlier blog, titled S.M.A.R.T Goals posted September 18th, 2017. I am always excited to have this challenge at the beginning of the year. It gives me the opportunity to look at my life and see what changes need to be made. I hope that as I continue in my grade 11 year that I can strive to push myself and challenge myself to be better. I am wanting to re-challenge myself with new goals in January to continue pushing myself to be better. as you read on you will see the goals I have made for the first semester of my 2018 school year. I challenge you all to make your own smart goals.
For my Academy goal this year I plan on learning a new form of painting. Wet on Wet acrylic painting. The reason I have chosen to do this is that I have watched a lot of Bob Ross recently and I love his painting style and the overall look of his paintings. I want to learn how to create different looks according to how I hold my brush and different angles to use to create masterpieces. I also want to learn the tricks of making a beautiful landscape painting and discovering techniques that will increase my abilities to paint landscapes. Each of the paintings will be done on an 8 inch by 10-inch canvas. I plan to do one every two weeks for the rest of the first semester. Each painting will either be based on a photo I've taken or come straight from my head. These paintings will be then posted on my social media and on my website. For my personal goal, I plan on getting in shape. I will achieve this by doing a workout every morning. I will set an alarm for 5:30 so I will have time to finish my workout, shower, eat breakfast and leave. I will do this routine every day except for Saturdays and Sundays. My workouts will be different each day changing from chest and arm workout on Monday, then biceps and lats on Tuesday, legs and abs on Wednesday, chest and arms on Thursday, all followed by cardio on Friday. Then I will play basketball on Saturday and rest on Sunday. My family is currently challenging ourselves to have no sugar for one month. I won't admit it to my mother but I think this will help me achieve the healthy lifestyle that I am trying to maintain. I will do this until the end of the semester when I will change my work out. So we're finally finished. It's all gone by so fast I can't believe it's been a whole year. I can't wait to do it next year I'm going to miss all the people who aren't in it next year. but I can't wait to meet some new people and help them over the year. For the most part, the whole year has been really fun, I've gotten a lot of amazing experiences here and I can't wait to get new experiences next year. The only part I didn't like was the write-ups i don't like talking about my art because I don't really know what to talk about. I feel like the people who look at my art can decide how it should be described, not me. Everything else in the VAM academy was great my grades slipped a little at the end I just need to get better at handing in assignments. then I'll be all set for next year
So far I have finished two of the three paintings I plan to do. Although I do need to touch up the first painting because it doesn't quite feel finished yet. So far the process has been good other than some difficulty. on the third painting, I've done the under painting but I need to build up the details. I need to work on building up more details in the first painting, and the second painting I need to randomize the leaves. continuing.
For the past couple of weeks the VAM academy has been working on personal projects. For my project I will be creating three paintings. Based off photos I've taken and put in Prisma. So far I'm almost finished one painting. All I need to do is build up layers, and paint the sides. Then I'll move on the the other two paintings.
Yesterday we had a celebration of learning, and I had a lot on display- I had my pottery piece, ‘Jaws Dish’, which was put up for auction. It had a shark sculpture on it, hence the name. I was pretty proud, but my mom was the only one to bid for it. At least it sold. I also had a tri-fold on display, with four photographs, and one oil pastel. The celebration wasn’t only for at, we also had some projects in english which we presented. I had a photo story on display, and a video that we made for Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society on display as well.
As a group, I felt like we did really well. About half the pottery sold, which ws great! We made one hundred and thirty dollars, all of which is going to the Airdrie food bank. Everyone also had their own tri-fold's, videos and photo stories. I thought that the art show would be like the first one we had, Square One, where people would come ask questions about the academy and look around at our work. It was different though. Last night, people kind of just came looked at the art, we would tell them it was a silent auction, and then they would look some more than leave. If I had the choice, I would spend more time on my sculpture and on the naming of my photography and my art. I would also change the starting bid on the pottery to five dollars instead of ten. Last Wednesday I learned about smart goals, which are pretty much just goals made more complicated. Unfortunately, I made to make a smart goal for school and we had to make a personal goal as well, so I copied my teacher's idea (which was to make a painting every month), and made the goal to do a piece of art every month. My personal goal was to be a better basketball player for try outs at school.
Let me explain what a SMART goal is. SMART is an acronym- S is for specific in my goal this is finishing a painting every month, M is for measurable my goal shows this by at the beginning of the month I will plan what I will paint and in the last two weeks I will paint, A is for attainable I can attain my goal because I like to do art, R is for relevant it's not really relevant but I think it should help my painting abilities and T is the amount of time your goal will take and how you accomplish it I will do my goal once a month for a year. My personal goal was to be a better basketball player. ill show you how it's going to be an S.M.A.R..T goal. so for S specific ill practice basketball till tryouts are over then practice with the team. M is for measurable my goal will be ill practice basketball three times a week until tryouts are over. A is for attainable which means can I do it and I believe it is attainable because my dad likes to take me out and practice. R is for relevant I feel that my goal is very relevant because I really want to make the team this year and I love basketball so it would be great to make it. T is for amount of time again I will do this until trey outs start three times a week every week. |
